Modest beginnings

Our company was founded in the late 1830's by Jakob Furrer. Under his leadership the small horse-based haulage firm developed into a rapidly growing transport company. His son-in-law, Albert Welt, joined the company around 1860 and infused new ideas and dynamics. As a result of the increased mobility of the populace the furniture transport and moving business flourished, and the company soon developed international activities.

Continuous growth

The furniture transport department remained an important part of Welti-Furrer in the 20th century during the First and Second World Wars and the post-war years. Winston Churchill lauded the company after his historic visit to Zurich in his letter to Welti-Furrer thanking them "for your excellent packaging of the gifts I received in Zurich".

Looking to the future

The year 1993 marks a modern milestone in the history of this well-known, traditional Zurich company in that in this year it was taken over by the Knecht Group in Windisch in the canton of Argovia. Today, Sir Winston would certainly be very impressed to witness that the company packs and transports world-wide not only presents and furniture, but also price-less artwork and enormoulsy heavy items - and even entire companies - as well.
